Mercy Relief's Impact in Gaza

Since November 2023, Mercy Relief has been at the forefront of providing essential aid to the people of Gaza, who have faced immense hardships due to ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises. With the generosity of our donors and the tireless efforts of our team, we have been able to deliver $408,000 in relief aid, directly impacting 287,227 lives across four tranches.

Our Response in Numbers

$408,000 in Aid: Through our comprehensive relief efforts, we have provided critical supplies and support to those most in need. This funding has facilitated the distribution of food, clean water, and medical supplies, ensuring that vulnerable communities receive the assistance they desperately need.

287,227 Lives Touched: Our aid efforts have reached a significant portion of the Gaza population, offering hope and support to families and individuals struggling to survive amidst the turmoil. Every life impacted by our work represents a step towards stability and recovery.

Four Tranches of Aid: Our systematic approach has allowed us to deliver aid in a timely and organized manner. Each tranche has been carefully planned and executed to address the evolving needs on the ground, ensuring that our assistance is both effective and responsive.

Looking Ahead

As we continue our mission, Mercy Relief remains committed to supporting the people of Gaza. Our work is far from over, and we rely on the ongoing generosity of our donors to sustain our efforts. Together, we can continue to make a difference and bring hope to those in need.

Thank you for your unwavering support. Your contributions enable us to extend a hand of hope to the people of Gaza, providing them with the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

Banten, Indonesia

Mercy Relief has embarked on a sustainable development project in Banten, Indonesia in collaboration with Yayasan Pusat Kajian dan Perlindungan Anak (PKPA). We are entering the implementation stage, which will focus on consultations and workshops covering child protection education and sustainable livelihoods such as fish farming and non-timber product processing. Additionally, we are also supporting the construction of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facilities to provide clean drinking water.

Cianjur, Indonesia

We are planning to take our partner, Rahmatan Lil 'Alamin Foundation (RLAF), on a donor expedition to Cianjur, Indonesia. Mercy Relief undertook a relief and sustainable development project in Cianjur after the earthquake in 2022 collaborating with local ground partner, ASAR Humanity to distribute emergency relief assistance through the provision of hot meals, water, hygiene kits, blankets and shelter tents to the worst affected and most vulnerable families. A communal toilet and a preschool were built as a part of the recovery phase.

The trip is scheduled for the end of October and the itinerary will include monitoring updates, interactions with the local community, a transect walk, and distribution of school supplies pre-school students.

Local Programmes

School Outreach

We are thrilled to announce the exciting progress of our programme with Dulwich College and St. Joseph's Institution. This event incorporates the launch of a Minecraft disaster simulation game developed by Mercy Relief. It presents a great opportunity for students to acquire more knowledge on disaster management and humanitarian aid.

Mercy Relief will also be offering a course on Humanitarian Aid at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) commencing this August. The course aims to introduce the tenets of disaster relief and management to tertiary students, as well as impart philanthropic and community values to our learners as they prepare for their future careers.

A similar collaboration is in the pipeline with ITE College East, with details to be announced in our November Issue.

Community Outreach

In preparation for the launch of its local community-building initiative, Mercy Relief has been reaching out to local schools, tertiary institutions, welfare organisations and others to raise awareness and strengthen its programmes through the spirit of collaboration.

We are excited to share that several students from St. Joseph's Institution have volunteered for the project in a key step to forming Mercy Relief's team of resilient and mobile volunteers.

Ashwin believes, that the "Residents of Singapore are blessed to live in a peaceful, well-run city-state. Many fellow human beings are however not as fortunate. As I have been particularly moved by the hardships that people face in disaster zones and the stories of human courage and heroism in the face of adversity, I was looking for a reputable organization based in Singapore which contributes to International aid/relief operations. Mercy Relief ticked the boxes for me and I've hence been happy to contribute monthly for the past many years."

As a regional entrepreneur, I believe it's essential to support organizations that are committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbours and communities.

For this reason, I choose to donate to Mercy Relief, a pan-Asian relief organization that shares my passion for serving the most vulnerable communities in our region. I'm impressed by their dedication to life-saving assistance, from emergency aid to long-term recovery programs to those affected by disasters and crises.

By supporting Mercy Relief, I'm confident that my donation will be used effectively to make a meaningful impact. I'm proud to be part of a community that comes together to help those in need, and I urge others to join me in supporting this vital work."

Edward Neubronner

"If not for the support and resources provided by Mercy Relief, I wouldn't be able to help the communities you serve and for that, I am forever grateful.

So here's to Mercy Relief – an amazing organization that truly embodies the spirit of kindness, compassion, and service. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a partner in your endeavour and to many more years of making a positive impact together!", said Edward.

Journey into Art

Shruti Balaji's journey as an artist is a blend of passion, creativity, and a commitment to making a difference. Growing up in California and Chennai, she found joy in creating art from a young age, whether it was doodling on sidewalks or sketching on chalkboards.

Her interest in murals was sparked during her travels, especially in London, where she was captivated by the vibrant street art scene. This fascination with large-scale public art inspired her to explore art and design further.

Breadth of Experience

In Singapore, where she pursued her university education, Shruti found herself drawn to the diverse cultural influences of the city. This multicultural environment enriched her perspective and fuelled her creativity.

Shruti's career took on a philanthropic dimension as she became involved in charity work and environmental advocacy. From designing sustainable collections for Mandai Zoo to supporting artists with disabilities through SG Enable, she used her artistic talents to make a positive impact on society.

Her work with the Sethu Foundation in Chennai, where she facilitated art workshops for underprivileged children, exemplifies her commitment to using art as a tool for empowerment and self-expression.

At LEGO, Shruti interned as an art director, reinforcing her belief in the importance of creativity and play in children's development. This experience further fuelled her passion for making art accessible to all.

Creating Hope and Inspiration

As the lead artist for Mercy Relief's Impact Wall Mural, Shruti brought her wealth of experience and dedication to create art that inspires and uplifts communities in need. Through her work, she hopes to spread awareness on Mercy Relief's humanitarian work and bring joy to those who need it most.

When we asked her why she volunteered to be the lead artist for the Impact Wall Mural, this was her response:

"I was very impressed with the work mercy relief does in providing aid on ground immediately, in particular, their work is very meaningful to me because mercy relief has helped with disaster relief in my home country ( India) and its neighbours Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The organisation's values also aligned so much with my passions (children’s education: I am a Children’s book illustrator), gardening and environmental sustainability (I have a home garden and am a passionate advocate for plant-based diets), the importance of supporting local crafts like basket weaving and handloom (very prevalent from my hometown Chennai in India)."
